Meg Santos
Mate #225
Hometown: Bergenfield, NJ
Pronouns: she/her/hers
Solos: BIRDS OF A FEATHER
Major: Education and American Studies
Standing at a whopping six feet tall, Meg Santos comes from the humble town of Bergenfield, NJ. At the apex of the lovely state of New Jersey, fellow Bergenfielders often boast about their close proximity to New York City and how they “basically live in the city” (although she does not claim that title). She is currently studying Education and American Studies, hoping to eventually develop curriculum for public schools or work as a museum curator (whichever comes first).
Meg’s music career has been on the rise for quite some time now. She had initially been bothered incessantly by her peers to play basketball due to her extraordinarily tall stature, but eventually settled on music simply because she hates exercise. Meg grew up singing karaoke at countless family parties and found solace in her family’s subpar versions of Celine Dion and Billy Joel songs. The first instrument she picked up was the trombone in third grade due to its “cool slide-y thingy”, and despite its vast size, she stayed captivated by the unusual instrument for the next 11 years of her life. Not long after, Meg began taking guitar lessons at a program called School of Rock, where she would go on to make house band for four years and the national AllStars program for three. In her spare time, Meg also sang in a band called ****** ****, which she cites as one of her greatest accomplishments (not). Consequently, she has gone on tours locally and all across the US, from California to Chicago to Kentucky, and even performed at Lollapalooza in the summer of 2023 (yes, it may have been the kids stage but it still counts). Over time, Meg has also developed amateur skills at bass, piano, and drums, but utilizes most of her talent perfecting her songwriting craft. She has been saying for over a year that new music is coming, but for now her only single stands alone on all streaming platforms (stream “Love Or Loneliness" by Mae Gunn!).
Aside from music, Meg thoroughly enjoys going to concerts, collecting stickers, drinking coffee, and hanging out with friends. At Tufts, she currently works at the mail room and interns at the Asian American Center (both of which are very different from her ice cream job back home).
Meg couldn’t be happier to be a ‘Mate this year, and she can’t wait to finally “have an idea”!
