Daniel is from Houston, Texas, and is thrilled to be singing with the Mates this year! He started his musical journey when he picked up a guitar in fifth grade, and his teacher brought him to local bars to sing once a month. He fell in love with songwriting later in high school and started producing his own work junior year. He spends most of his free time worshiping Stephin Merritt and shamelessly emulating his lyrics in his own songs (you can listen to his originals on WMFO 91.5 Medford Radio). Of course, he also enjoyed his high school’s choir and theater programs, his favorite role being Tommy Ross in Carrie.

Beyond the arts, Daniel loves any poetry his mom gives him to read, any kind of organized basketball, and any kind of dish with capers. While still undecided, he is considering majors in sociology, music, and American studies. Right now, he’s mainly just focused on making music in any way possible: on the piano, the banjo, the lap steel, FL Studio, and of course, with the Mates!
