Mari was born in Japan but moved to Hawaii at the age of seven and has lived there ever since. Unfortunately, she does not know how to surf nor play the ukulele that well, however, you can always catch her at the nearest poke shop. Mari is fluent in Japanese and is continuing her studies at Tufts as well.

Mari has been involved in music for as long as she can remember. At the age of three, her parents quickly enrolled her in piano lessons which she continued until she was about 14 years old. Although Mari has lost lot of her piano skills, she still dabbles here and there in the practice rooms at Granoff. Mari has always had a passion for singing and began taking it seriously when she was in third grade by begging her parents to enroll her in some lessons. From then on, she has trained in classical, musical theater, pop, and jazz singing. (though she tries to keep my musical theater identity hidden, for various reasons). However, the first musical that she was ever cast in was Oliver, where she played Bet, and since then she has fallen in love with the stage. Mari was also a part of her high school’s jazz band, where she sang various hits such as “At Last” by Etta James and “Feeling Good” by Nina Simone.

Currently, Mari is studying Chemistry and Music Engineering at Tufts. Outside of the classroom, you will often find her in the practice rooms of Granoff working on her songwriting and music production skills. She also loves trying all the various “Asian dishes” at the dining halls… they’ve been pretty interesting to say the least. Mari is so excited to continue sharing her passion of singing with the ‘Mates, and cannot wait to grow more as a musician!
